INDONESIA - 6.9
magnitude earthquake (M) which is centered in Banten caused a number of houses
in Pandeglang damaged. The house in the village of Sinarjaya, Mandalawangi, was
affected by the earthquake.
AFP visited the earthquake affected location on Saturday
(03/08/2019) at 3:00 a.m. WIB At least two houses were damaged.
The first house affected by the earthquake belonged to a
resident named Awin. The inner wall of the house collapsed so that the conditions
inside the house were very dusty and full of chunks of falling walls.
Likewise, the condition of Andi Alim's house. The inside
walls of the house looked collapsed.
Mandalawangi Sub-District Chief, Entus Bakti, said that the
impact of damage to houses in Sinarjaya Village was indeed not severe. However,
continued Entus, the damage could potentially cause long-term effects if left
unchecked.
"In my opinion, it does not appear to be heavily
damaged, but if left unchecked, I think it will have a heavy impact. If you ask
me, the impact will be heavy if you look at it," said Mandalawangi
District Head Entus Bakti when met at the location.
Entus worried about the condition of the walls of the two
damaged houses. If left unchecked, the roof of the house could collapse.
"Why do I say heavy, the average weight of the house
here I see, like what we saw together, the house did not use steel
construction, right? Does not use steel poles, does not use blocks. So if you
leave the wall already tilted it if it falls I think it has a dangerous impact.
The roof can collapse, "explained Entus.
The previous 7.4 M earthquake shook Banten. The earthquake
was also accompanied by a warning of a potential tsunami.
Early warning of potential tsunamis is then ended. The
warning was ended after waiting 2 hours from the last estimated time, which was
at 19:35 WIB. The earthquake was also updated to M 6.9.
